5 Noble Facts about Central Borneo

Central Kalimantan is the largest province in the island. As most of the area covered by rain forest, the province is home for thousands species of flora and fauna.

The Traditional Dances
There are several traditional dances from Central Kalimantan, such as Balean Dadas and Tambun Bungai Dance. Balean Dadas usually performed on the Dayak ceremony in order to ask God for healing from any illness. Whilst Tambun Bungai Dance is inspired by the story of Tambun and Bungai who believed by local as hero. The dance tells about how brave they are fighting against the enemy who tried to rob the village.

You can find many wildlife sanctuaries in Central Kalimantan, one of them is Sungai Lamandau Sanctuary that situated in Sukamara. To reach the sanctuary, it needs 12 hours trip to Pangkalan Bun and another hour for a boat ride along Lamandau River. You should visit this place in period of July until September, because there’s amazing view of a lake that full of birds migrating in that period of time.

Another one is the famous Tanjung Puting National Park that located in the regency of Kotawaringin Barat and Seruyan. Established as national park in the 1936 by the Dutch colonial government, the place is intended to preserve the habitat of Orangutan and Proboscis monkey.

Balanga Museum
The museum built to store and display all collections related to Daya’s life. You can see wide range of cultural stuffs and daily tools like Mihing (traditional fishing tool), Dayak’s costume, and their traditional yet deadly weapon (Mandau, Sumpitan, Duhung, and much more).

Isen Mulang Festival

Karungut

Isen Mulang is Dayak’s cultural festival held annually in Central Kalimantan. The festival intended to preserve local culture, custom, and art. There are several competitions held during the festival such as Jukung boat race, Manyipet (blow gun competition), and Karungut contest (singing Dayak’s songs). Jeane Monica
